Privacy Policy

Excerpt Tracker is designed to keep your practice materials under your control.

The app does not currently:

• Require an Excerpt Tracker account.
• Display advertising.
• Use advertising trackers.
• Sell personal information.
• Use third-party analytics or behavioral-tracking SDKs.
• Upload your practice library to a server operated by the Company.

Your app information is stored on your device. If you select iCloud Sync during setup or enable it later, the app also stores synchronized information in the private Apple CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account.

Depending on the features you use, Excerpt Tracker may process:

• Excerpt, repertoire, and practice-list names.
• Practice ratings, notes, dates, schedules, timers, and history.
• Mock-audition settings, recordings, notes, and results.
• PDF scores, scanned documents, annotations, and related files.
• Audio recordings you create during practice.
• App settings and preferences.
• Calendar names, identifiers, and Excerpt Tracker practice events.
• Information needed to determine your trial or purchase entitlement.
• A one-way fingerprint derived from Apple's private CloudKit user identifier, used to keep synchronization bound to the correct iCloud account.
• Verified local safety packages created before certain iCloud account transitions.

This information is used to provide the features you request, synchronize content when you choose iCloud Sync, protect library integrity and recoverability, keep synchronization bound to the correct iCloud account, process purchases and entitlements, and secure and maintain the app. It is not used for advertising, marketing, behavioral tracking, or third-party analytics.

During setup, Excerpt Tracker recommends iCloud Sync and presents it as the primary choice. Nothing is uploaded until you select “Continue with iCloud.” You can instead select “Keep on This Device.”

If you select iCloud Sync, the app sends library data—including titles, notes, practice history, PDF scores, scanned pages, annotations, and recordings—to Apple’s CloudKit service so it can be synchronized across your devices. This information is stored in the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account.

The Company does not use your iCloud content for advertising, marketing, or analytics. Apple processes iCloud information according to the Apple Privacy Policy.

To prevent a library from being synchronized into the wrong iCloud account, the app derives a one-way account fingerprint from Apple’s private CloudKit user identifier. The fingerprint is stored on the device and alongside the synchronized library in that user’s private CloudKit database. It is used only to bind synchronization state to the correct account, not for advertising, analytics, or tracking.

If the signed-in iCloud account changes, synchronization and CloudKit file access pause before either independent library is read or changed. This release lets you return to the expected account and check again, or choose “Keep Library on This Device.” It does not automatically combine two populated libraries that lack a verified common synchronization baseline, and it does not offer to replace the device library with the selected iCloud library.

If you choose “Keep Library on This Device,” Excerpt Tracker first creates and verifies a local safety package and copies and verifies every referenced file available to the app. Only after those checks succeed does it turn off iCloud Sync; the selected iCloud library is left unchanged. If the safety checks cannot be completed, the storage choice is not changed.

If an existing on-device library predates secure iCloud account binding, the app likewise pauses before an iCloud library or file is read or written. This release allows that library to remain on the device but does not automatically associate it with a potentially independent iCloud library.

You can turn off iCloud Sync at any time. Turning it off keeps future changes on that device and does not remove content already stored in the private CloudKit database. If you turn sync on again with the same iCloud account, synchronization may resume.

Excerpt Tracker requests camera access only when you choose to scan a printed score or document.

Scanned pages become part of your Excerpt Tracker library. They remain on your device unless you enable iCloud sync or intentionally export or share them.

The app does not use the camera for advertising, identification, or background monitoring.

Excerpt Tracker requests microphone access only when you choose to record a practice session or mock audition.

Recordings remain on your device unless you enable iCloud sync or intentionally export or share them. The app does not analyze recordings for advertising, identification, or marketing purposes.

Calendar integration is optional.

When enabled, Excerpt Tracker uses calendar access to:

• Display available writable calendars.
• Create the practice events you request.
• Update or remove Excerpt Tracker-created practice events.
• Maintain the connection between planned practice days and those events.

Although iOS may describe the permission as full calendar access, Excerpt Tracker uses it only for calendar selection and managing its practice events through Apple’s on-device EventKit framework. The Company does not receive your calendar information. If you choose a calendar associated with iCloud, Google, Microsoft, or another provider, that provider may synchronize and process the calendar name and Excerpt Tracker-created events according to its own privacy terms. Calendar information is not used by the Company for advertising or analytics.

You may disable calendar integration in the app or revoke calendar permission through the device’s Settings application.

Purchases are processed through Apple’s StoreKit and the App Store.

Apple handles your Apple Account and payment information. The Company does not receive your complete payment-card or banking information. The app receives only the information needed to determine whether a trial, purchase, or restored entitlement is valid.

Apple’s handling of purchase information is governed by Apple’s privacy policies.

Excerpt Tracker allows you to import, export, back up, and share materials.

Reusable materials packages are designed to share scores and reusable organization. They exclude private notes, ratings, practice history, and recordings. A package can include PDF scores and, when you choose, score annotations.

Full backup packages intentionally contain the complete library, including private notes, ratings, practice history, PDF scores, annotations, recordings, recently deleted items, and related files. Treat a full backup with the same care as the original library.

When you initiate an export or sharing action, the information is sent to the destination, person, application, or service you select. Information exported outside Excerpt Tracker is no longer controlled by the app and may be subject to the recipient’s privacy practices.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights to store, scan, import, or share scores and other materials.

When you use the website’s contact form, the Company may receive:

• Your name, if provided.
• Your reply email address.
• The type of support request.
• Your message.
• Optional app version, device, and operating-system information.

This information is used to answer questions, investigate problems, consider feature suggestions, prevent abuse, and provide customer support.

The contact form is processed using Formspree, a service operated by Formspree, Inc. Formspree may process and store the submitted information to deliver it to the Company, secure the service, prevent spam or abuse, and comply with applicable legal obligations. Formspree’s practices are described in the Formspree Privacy Policy.

The website and its service providers may also process standard technical information—such as an IP address, browser type, request time, and referring page—for hosting, delivery, security, and abuse prevention.

The Company does not use the contact form to add you to a marketing list unless you separately and clearly agree to receive marketing communications.

Privacy requests submitted through the contact form receive the same identity, security, and response protections as other support requests. Do not include scores, recordings, passwords, or other information that is not needed for the request.

The Company may share information only in the following circumstances:

• Apple: To provide iCloud synchronization, App Store purchases, and other Apple platform services.
• Formspree: To receive and process website contact-form submissions.
• Service providers: When necessary to operate, secure, or maintain the website and support services.
• At your direction: When you export or share information, or choose a calendar whose provider synchronizes events, to the destination, application, person, service, or calendar provider you select.
• Legal and safety requirements: The Company-held website and support information reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or a valid governmental request; enforce legal rights; prevent fraud or abuse; or protect users and the public.
• Business transfers: Company-held website and support information may be transferred if the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate protections.

The Company does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Service providers acting on the Company’s behalf are required to provide the same or equivalent protection for personal information and may process it only to provide the disclosed service, protect that service, or comply with disclosed legal obligations.

App information stored locally remains on your device until you delete it, remove the app, or erase the device. When you delete an excerpt, list, practice section, or logged session, it is removed from active use and its payload is scheduled for purge after 30 days. Purge occurs at the next safe opportunity when the app runs and can durably record the deletion for synchronization. If the app is not run, a device is offline, or a storage or synchronization operation must be retried, the payload can remain longer than 30 days.

After a deleted payload is purged, Excerpt Tracker may retain content-free record identifiers and modification or deletion timestamps for longer so an offline or older device cannot restore deleted content. These synchronization-safety markers do not contain titles, notes, PDFs, annotations, recordings, ratings, or practice history.

When a PDF, annotation file, or recording is no longer referenced by retained library metadata, its physical local or CloudKit asset may remain for an additional 30-day recovery grace period. Removal is then retried on a best-effort basis, so an offline device, unavailable service, or deletion error can retain the asset longer. Restoring or synchronizing a live reference cancels the pending removal.

For undo and corruption recovery, Excerpt Tracker keeps bounded on-device snapshots of library metadata, which can include prior titles, notes, ratings, schedules, and practice history. The app keeps up to 20 undo entries and two last-known-good snapshots, plus three fixed slots for exact copies of an unreadable primary library. Current undo and last-known-good snapshots omit embedded PDF, annotation, and recording bytes. An exact corrupt-data copy can contain whatever private information or legacy embedded data was present in the unreadable file. These local files are replaced or removed as recovery and storage transitions occur and are removed with the app.

If pending synchronization or asset-queue metadata cannot be read safely, the app may retain a bounded number of local recovery or quarantine copies rather than discard pending work. These copies may include prior library metadata, record and asset identifiers, file names or paths, checksums, and queued-operation details, but do not intentionally embed PDF, annotation, or recording bytes. Retention selects no more than two recognized copies per app-owned recovery family; older recognized copies are removed on a best-effort basis, so a cleanup error can delay that bound.

Information synchronized with iCloud remains in the private CloudKit database until it is deleted through a supported app action or managed through your Apple Account and iCloud settings. Turning off iCloud Sync does not by itself remove information already stored in CloudKit.

Earlier development or test versions installed through Xcode may also have stored PDFs, annotations, and recordings in Excerpt Tracker’s iCloud Documents container. When an affected library is changed to device-only storage, the app copies and checksum-verifies referenced files into managed local storage before disabling sync, but intentionally retains the older iCloud Documents source for recovery safety.

To manage content in Apple-provided iCloud storage controls, first export anything you want to keep and turn Excerpt Tracker iCloud Sync off on every device where the app is installed. Then open your Apple Account’s iCloud storage settings, select Excerpt Tracker if Apple presents it, and use the available delete-data control. Setting names and availability vary by device, operating-system version, region, and Apple Account. See Apple’s iCloud storage guide. The Company cannot perform this Apple Account operation for you.

Selective in-app deletion remains available without Core Unlock. You can remove existing library records, recordings, and PDFs, or clear all Excerpt Tracker annotations from one explicitly selected PDF. This release does not provide Empty Trash or an in-app account-wide CloudKit deletion control.

Before completing certain iCloud storage transitions, Excerpt Tracker creates a verified safety package in protected local storage. It can contain the same private content and files as a full backup. The app is designed to retain the currently referenced package, the newest complete package, and the newest valid incomplete diagnostic package if different. Older verified app-created packages and abandoned staging packages are removed on a best-effort basis; a cleanup error can delay their removal.

Calendar events remain in your selected calendar until you or the app remove them.

Support messages are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain appropriate support records, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. You may request the deletion of a support message through the contact page.

Backups and files you export are under your control and must be deleted separately from every location where you saved or shared them.

You may:

• Decline camera, microphone, or calendar permission.
• Revoke permissions through your device settings.
• Keep your library on the device during setup.
• Turn off iCloud Sync. Existing CloudKit content is retained, and synchronization may resume if you turn it on again with the same account.
• Without Core Unlock, delete existing excerpts, lists, practice sections, logged sessions, recordings, and PDFs, or clear all Excerpt Tracker annotations from one selected PDF. Deleted payloads are scheduled for purge after 30 days at the next safe app run or synchronization opportunity, and safety retries can retain them longer.
• Manage private CloudKit data and retained legacy iCloud Documents copies through the controls Apple offers in your Apple Account’s iCloud storage settings after exporting wanted data and turning sync off on every installed device.
• Export a backup of your information.
• Delete the application and its locally stored data. Export any device-only library you want to keep before uninstalling.
• Request access to, correction of, or deletion of information submitted through the website.

Because Excerpt Tracker does not require a company-operated account, the Company generally cannot identify or retrieve information stored solely on your device or in your private CloudKit database.

Excerpt Tracker may be useful to musicians of different ages and does not require a Company-operated account. If a user chooses iCloud Sync, Apple processes the user’s library information in the private CloudKit database associated with that user’s Apple Account. The Company cannot access that private database through Excerpt Tracker.

Children should use Excerpt Tracker and iCloud only with the involvement of a parent or guardian as appropriate for their age and location, and should avoid placing unnecessary personal information in free-form notes, recordings, file names, or shared materials. Children should use the website contact form only with the permission of a parent or guardian.

If you believe a child submitted personal information through the website, please submit a request through the contact page so the Company can review and delete it where appropriate.

The Company uses reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information handled by its services. However, no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You are responsible for protecting your device, Apple Account, exported backups, and any files you share.

Excerpt Tracker may allow you to open external websites or share information with other applications.

The Company is not responsible for the privacy, security, or content practices of third-party websites or applications. Review the applicable third party’s privacy policy before providing it with information.

The Company’s service providers may process information in the United States, Canada, or other countries. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from those in your country.

By submitting information through the website, you understand that it may be processed where the Company or its service providers operate, subject to applicable legal protections.

The Company may update this Privacy Policy when the app, website, services, or legal requirements change.

When material changes are made, the effective date will be updated and additional notice will be provided when appropriate. Your continued use of Excerpt Tracker after an update is subject to the revised policy.
